Chief Jamie BabcockJamie Babcock, a local native who has a long family history of firefighters here in Virgil is now the Chief of Virgil Fire Department. Having immediate family members such as his Step-Father who is a past chief and his mother a past assistant chief. Jamie started out as a volunteer at the Virgil Fire Department in 1990 right out high school. He stayed with Virgil until 1994 until he moved to Groton and continued to be a firefighter there. Working through the ranks of a line officer to lieutenant to eventually becoming a 1st assistant chief in Groton. In the year 2000, he moved back to Virgil, again continuing his service with Virgil Fire Department working through the ranks to become the existing Chief. Jamie is also an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with 15 years experience and currently employed part-time with TLC when not working at his full time job as a Corrections Officer. 3rd Asst Chief Kevin PrattKevin Pratt who is currently the Third Assistant Chief of the Virgil Fire Department has been in the fire service since 1991. Kevin started out as a junior firefighter with the Cortlandville fire dept at the age of 14 where he spent 9 years with this department. In 1997 Kevin joined the United States Coast Guard as a firefighter working at a fire house in Cape May NJ as a career firefighter.
during this time he was assigned to the haz-mat team,confined space rescue team, and was a shift leader/lead firefighter until the end of his tour in 2001. Kevin got out of the military and further persued his career as a firefighter when he took a job as a firefighter with the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport in Ithaca New York where he is currently employed. |
